Erwin Gruber was born on February 2nd , 1918, in Nürnberg , as the son of Joseph Gruber, who was a sculptor.

After his school attendance at the middle school he was taught sculpturing by his own father, together with his twin brother Otto Gruber, who died in World War II .

From 1937 - 1939 he studied sculpture by Prof. Nida - Rümelin at the Academy of Arts in Nürnberg.

From 1940 - 1946 he absolved his military time in World War II and came in french captivity.

From 1946 - 1948 he restarted his studies of arts again : sculpture by Prof. Schorer and painting by Prof. Wilhelm.

Afterwards he worked as an artist and as a professor of arts for the cultural centre in Nürnberg.He was a member of the "free group of arts" and the group of artist in Fürth, as well as the

president of the association of artist in Nürnberg.

Member of the Jury of innumerable exhibitions.

He died on June 2nd, 1992, in Roth near Nürnberg, after 5 years of malady.

His work was very extensive:

300 paintings and 1000 drawings.
